Anything Look Different to You? : New Logo & Brand!

After 4 months of planning and decisions, I am excited and happy to present to you the new brand of Ashley McCormick Photography! It has been a long time coming and a lot of heart *and money* have gone into creating what I believe reflects my business, my work and myself more accurately.

2010 was a little tumultuous for the Ashley McCormick Brand, starting off with one logo and switching to another. Here’s a peek back at what we started with:

This logo was very good for me for several years. I liked its style and colors, but over time as I gained experience I realized it didn’t fit who I was anymore. So in May 2010 this baby was born:

I know, changing logos TWICE in less than a year? Yeah… I’m a little impulsive sometimes. And that’s what I realized with my last logo. I was so desperate for change that I just told my designer what I wanted and I really didn’t think about my business, what I wanted my brand to convey or where I wanted my business to go in the future. So after attending an online branding seminar in September, my whole view on branding changed and what I had wasn’t where I wanted my business to go.

One of the things the seminar suggested to do was to create a “mood board” of images that you’re drawn to or that inspire you. So I went trolling the web for things that I loved and even pulled a few of my own photos and I just kept dropping them into photoshop. After about an hour or so of searching, I went back to photoshop and started organizing my finds. I was AMAZED at how cohesive my choices were and how completely different they were from my current logo. Also? I realized that these items also reflect my home. My house is full of golds, blues, dark browns and natural elements. I couldn’t believe it. The exercise had worked and I really discovered through it who I am. Not only as a business person but in my life as well. I’m very classic, a little vintage and a little natural. I sent my mood board to my designer, Leslie Vega, and we had a chat on the phone. After about 15 minutes of me talking and telling her what I was thinking, she said to me “You keep using the word ‘Classic’ when describing your work and style.” And she was right. My old tagline was Beautifully Modern. Well, when I look at my work, I don’t think of “modern” at ALL. I think classic, vintage and natural. Just like my mood board showed me. Amazing. Here’s the mood board I sent to Leslie:

So out of the photos above, this logo and tagline were born:

Its classic and a little vintage. Perfect. Leslie chose a block font to keep the main part of my logo timeless, but added a vintage typewriter font for the tagline. For people in love. That is exactly how I feel when I see my work. It isn’t beautifully modern, strictly vintage or classic, but it IS for people in love. The key is a favorite element of mine, an old skeleton key, but its a little girly in its design and also looks hand drawn. I have always loved old keys (you can see I added one in my mood board) and again, it has that classic/vintage feel.

So once the logo was established the rest soon followed. Here are some photos of my whole brand together, I am so exited to FINALLY have a cohesive, solid, beautiful brand that I adore. I feel that it fits me so perfectly and really reflects my personality, style, my work and the type of client I want to attract. I want couples who are classic, stylish, love vintage elements, enjoy nature, DYI, and love to travel. And I feel that my new brand reflects exactly that. So on that note, I present to you, the new Ashley McCormick Photography Brand!

The wedding contract

Packaging for my disks, thank you’s, copyright information and CD design

I had several custom stamps made for different items. I love their vintage feel! Here’s my logo stamp:

The Pricing Menu that all couples will receive when they meet with me

Notepads, post-its, pens and a magnet

A tote! Wouldn’t this be cute to carry around bridal shows?

Custom envelopes for my clients to return their contracts in. I just love my little key :)

And finally, the whole suite!

I want to say thank you again to Leslie Vega for all of her hard work making my vision reality!

I am so excited to finally have a brand that I absolutely love. Happy 2011 Everyone!!

Hi Ashley,

I was wondering if you could email me the name of seminar you took on branding. I am thinking of rebranding later this year and could use some direction myself.

Thanks,
Christine

Ps. Your new branding works, I saw your ad in Unveiled and wanted to check out your stuff ;)

AshleyMcCPhoto - May 12, 2011 - 7:18 am

Hi Christine! Sorry for my late response! The only thing I did was Lara Casey’s “Make Brands Happen” internet seminar last fall. But really, I just collected images that I liked and put them together and then contacted Leslie, my designer. She is the one who made my vision reality! Good luck with your rebrand! :)
